C.A.R.E. supporters start young!
Six-year-old Ava A. of Morton Grove, shown here with her mom Kristy and C.A.R.E. volunteer Barb, collected donations for our animals. Ava presented her first donation to us at an Adoption Event at Pet Supplies Plus in Morton Grove, then again at an event at Petsmart in Skokie—some $68 in all.
Ava raised some of the money by doing chores around the house. Ava also made a sign about C.A.R.E. with pictures of cats and dogs, and sat by the sidewalk in front of her house to appeal to neighborhood dog-walkers.
When asked why she went to so much effort for C.A.R.E. cats and dogs, Ava’s response was immediate. “Because I love animals and I think they’re so sweet!” she said.
Ava’s mother Kristy applauds her daughter’s initiative. “There aren’t many options for kids this young to volunteer, but this was a good fit for her,” said Kristy, noting that the family includes a dog and a turtle. “I think Ava knows every dog in the neighborhood!”
Ava chimed in. “Yes! There’s seven dogs on our block!”
