Calling all pet-loving people who want to hang out with cool cats and great dogs: Community Animal Rescue Effort is holding its second annual Volunteer Fair on Saturday, July 27, from 10 am to 1 pm, at the C.A.R.E. Adoption Center, 4927 Main St., Skokie.
Available weekly shifts include dog care, cat care, front desk, and tending to the Adoption Center garden and facility. Volunteers are asked to commit to a weekly three-hour morning or evening shift. Young animal-lovers aged 12-15 are welcome to volunteer with a parent. Teens, age 16 and above, can volunteer on their own.
Dog Care: Dog volunteers assist with caring for, exercising and socializing C.A.R.E. dogs. Training to become a dog care volunteer takes approximately three sessions. You will learn about dog body language, the proper way to enter and exit the kennels, how to move through the kennel, how to leash the dogs up, and more.
Cat Care: Cat volunteers assist with caring for and socializing resident C.A.R.E. cats, who live in spacious 'catios' with window views and natural light. Cat care training generally takes two sessions of shadowing an experienced volunteer.
Reception Desk: Volunteers at C.A.R.E.’s Reception Desk provide general Adoption Center information, answer the phone, field questions about animals, and show visitors around.
Landscaping / Building Support: These volunteers assist in keeping our animals’ home looking great by doing light gardening and handling handyman tasks within the building.
Volunteer Fair attendees will be able to tour the Adoption Center and see what role they can play in helping cats and dogs as they await their forever homes. Volunteer applications can be found online at CAREnorthshore.org/volunteer-application.
